This is a tale about a haute couture icon/ artist, the legacy he left behind and a little big city that won the only U.S. stop for an international exhibit of his retrospective works. Wedged between stops in Paris and Madrid, The Denver Art Museum will be exhibiting 200 pieces, as well as drawings and photographs, chronicling the evolution of one of history’s most fashionably astute: Yves St. Laurent (March 25th-July 8th, 2012).
Last week, Luxe Magazine, in conjunction with the DAM, hosted one of the first celebrations around the exhibit: the ticket release party (the official exhibit gala is happening soon). Here are a few snaps from the night.

One intelligent piece of clothing. The Versalette can be worn 15 different ways and has recently emerged as the most funded fashion project in the history of Kickstarter.
What is equally impressive as the piece itself, is the marketing behind around it. Creators, Kristen Glenn and Shannon Whitehead have taken full advantage of modern-day, virtual tools to lead their audience through all phases of start-up, exposing the reality of entrepreneurial ups and downs, forming a community of supporters that ultimately helped bring their vision into the real.
The piece is made in the USA and represents a new wave of fashion designers, who are attempting to improve the widespread workings of the fashion industry, as well as shift whole paradigms around the consuming process. Far from a clear-cut endeavor, often perpetuating more questions than answers- hats off to {r} for taking the plunge into a simple idea, backed by passion, all in the name of moving fashion (er, the planet) forward… and getting off to a great start.
All around, a brilliant piece. Keep up the good work {r}.

(Really incredible) graphite drawings by artist, Ed Loftus from Oakland, CA, are on display through January 21, 2012 at the Gregory Lind Gallery in San Francisco.
“The self-reflexive nature of creating the work is evident in pieces such as “Untitled” (Brick Wall), which elucidates the simultaneously isolating and expansive nature of making art, of “bricking yourself in and opening yourself up.”

A dear friend from San Fransico, Kara has some of the freshest style of anyone I know, beautiful inside & out. These are from her South African wedding a few years ago.. xo Kar-er’s.

Consistently eye catching: Libby Wann (photographer) is originally from Colorado, but currently lives in Williamsberg. She works in all seasons and has an amazing knack for framing her surroundings. Beauty in the eye of the beholder. Below are some top picks..
